Duties:

  • Direct, Support, encourage & advise multi-professional teams across adult services in ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of safeguarding services to adults at risk across the Bailiwick as determined by the Multi-Agency Adult Safeguarding Policy
  • Support the Service Manager for safeguarding and Quality Assurance in managing Health and Social Care’s (HSC) involvement in the development of wider governance structures to oversee the quality and assurance of adult safeguarding activity within HSC
  • Manage and allocate safeguarding activity to members of a ‘virtual adult safeguarding response team’ made up of non-co-located Adult Safeguarding Leads
  • The post-holder’s management activities will include ‘professional’ supervision of safeguarding activities, identification of training and development needs concerning safeguarding and provision of evidence into regular line management activities
  • Have line management and supervisory responsibility for up to three co-located designated adult safeguarding social worker/s who may be placed within the Safeguarding Unit at any one time, to provide a rapid response to urgent safeguarding concerns
  • Developing and implementing protocols and practice guidelines as requested by the Service Manager for Safeguarding, & Quality Assurancein consultation with users, carers and staff, taking into account equality and diversity
  • Publicising and promoting the policy through leaflets, public events and awareness raising sessions with all relevant stakeholders
  • Delivering a programme of training in conjunction with the Institute for Health & Social Care Services and other agencies

Requirements of the Manager:

  • Degree or equivalent in social work
  • Current Social Work England registration
  • Demonstrable post qualification experience in a senior social work or managerial position with supervisory experience within a statutory safeguarding team
  • Extensive experience of investigation in an adult safeguarding and/or child protection team
  • Experience of multi-agency partnership working
  • Experience of managing individuals carrying out work within a safeguarding context (including capacity & best interest decisions)
  • Knowledge & understanding of relevant policies, statutory guidance & legislation
  • Proven commitment to ensuring service users are central to planning & implementation of adult protection work and making safeguarding personal (MSP)
  • Ability to develop effective working partnership with other statutory organisations and agencies
  • Communication skills: ability to chair complex safeguarding meetings; presentation skills; ability to effectively communicate both verbally & written at all levels
